Rhapsody in Blue
I don’t know about you, but I’m strangely drawn to the sea.
Living not far from the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales, I’m constantly drawn to it’s ever-changing theatre - its moods, textures, and colours shifting with every tide. The wife and I try to get ‘over West’ as often as we can. On one of those occasions, standing on the shore, we watched as waves rolled and collided, stirring up a vibrant contrast of different shades of blues and bright-red dulse seaweed, which can be found in abundance along the coast in that part of Wales. That fleeting burst of wild beauty became the inspiration for ‘Rhapsody in Blue.’
This painting is a celebration of movement - the swirl of tide and current, the pull between calm and turbulence. Each splash and layer of paint echoes the rhythm of the sea itself: unpredictable, alive, and full of energy. Thick sweeps of blue, bold splatters of red and white foam, and dark inky undertones mimic the ocean’s pulse.
Perfect as a statement piece for open, airy spaces — coastal homes, modern lofts, or anywhere that needs a hit of movement and life. Its dynamic palette works beautifully with neutral interiors, accenting whites, greys, or wood tones with an electric burst of coastal vibrancy.
This painting doesn’t whisper — it breathes. It turns walls into windows looking straight out to sea.
