As an artist, I'm constantly inspired by nature and natures infinite palette.
'Florabunda' was conceived after a visit to the National Botanic Garden of Wales, in Carmarthen, which is only about an hour or so's drive down the road from me. I came across a particular plant (who's name escapes me) which was adorned with vibrant pink petals and luscious green leaves, so I felt compelled to take a few photos. Flicking through these photos, I was taken with how bright and vibrant the plant was, even in a photo, and was compelled to commit these images to canvas. 'Florabunda' is the result.
The painting is a vibrant abstract composition filled with layered pinks, whites, greens, and deep teal-greens. The expressive paint strokes range from broad and gestural to small and precise, creating a varied texture with thick and fluid areas. The dense, energetic composition has no clear focal point, evoking the feel of a landscape or natural scene in an abstract style.
