Why I don’t sell prints

Transcript for the above…

Exclusivity & Prestige

  • Collectors often value uniqueness. Knowing that a piece exists only once increases its desirability and perceived value.

  • Creates a sense of scarcity that can drive higher prices.

  1. Brand Positioning

    • Positions you as a fine artist rather than a commercial/illustrative one.

    • Collectors may take you more seriously if you resist reproductions, as this aligns with traditional gallery norms.

  2. Simplified Business Model

    • No need to manage print production, storage, shipping logistics, or quality control.

    • You can focus solely on creating new work and nurturing collector relationships.

  3. Higher Average Sale Price

    • Instead of selling many lower-priced prints, you aim for fewer but larger sales, which can sometimes be more sustainable if you have an established collector base.

It’s to preserve rarity and exclusivity and to position my work as true one-of-a-kind collector pieces. This approach I feel, strengthens the sense of prestige around each painting.

In this video, I talk more about the reasoning behind this approach and how it influences value, branding, and the collector experience.
