Inspiration for this piece grew out of childhood memories of watching the underwater films of Jacques Cousteau and being fascinated by the colour, movement and life within coral reefs.
Rather than depicting coral literally, the painting became a response to that atmosphere - layers of colour interacting naturally, with no single element dominating the surface. Warm pinks, corals and golds rise against cooler greens, blues and violets, creating a composition that feels vibrant, fluid and constantly shifting.
The paint was worked intuitively using fingers rather than brushes, allowing colours and textures to blend, push and emerge more organically across the canvas. Circular gestures and layered marks hint at natural growth without becoming fixed or repetitive.
From a distance, the piece feels bold and uplifting. Up close, smaller details and textures begin to slow the eye down, revealing new combinations of colour and movement over time.
On the wall, it brings warmth, energy and a sense of lightness into a space without overwhelming it.
