Maths was never really my thing at school, although I always had a soft spot for geometry. There was something satisfying about circles, squares and repeating forms - simple shapes that could still create endless variation.
That fascination eventually found its way into this piece.
‘Off On A Tangent’ plays with the balance between structure and instinct, where geometric forms begin in a controlled way before gradually loosening into something more expressive. Circles expand, squares overlap, and lines drift across the surface in ways that feel organised but never rigid.
Soft turquoise, amber and rust tones move through the composition alongside layered textures and subtle drips, giving the painting warmth, movement and depth. Some forms feel solid and grounded, while others seem to hover more freely across the surface.
From a distance, the piece feels balanced and graphic. Up close, smaller relationships between colour, texture and shape begin to reveal themselves more gradually over time.
On the wall, it brings structure, rhythm and warmth into a space without overpowering it.
