Some paintings have unexpected beginnings, and this one grew out of something I call “crunk” - the dried, hardened build-up of crusty paint and gunk that gathers around old paint tube caps over time.
Most artists throw it away. I started collecting it instead.
Using those fragments within the painting introduced a completely different kind of texture and changed how the piece developed. It became less about careful planning and more about allowing the layers, marks and materials to find their own balance naturally.
Bold reds, blues, yellows and touches of gold move across the surface alongside darker structural elements, creating energy and tension without losing cohesion.
The eye moves around the painting naturally, discovering different moments as it goes. Some areas push forward, others settle back, giving the piece movement without overwhelming the space around it.
