Some materials have a way of making you stop and look twice.
I remember a family trip to Rome, where marble seemed to be everywhere — beneath our feet, rising through grand buildings, carved into fountains and lining magnificent interiors.
What fascinated me wasn't simply its scale or history. It was the surface itself.
The intricate veins, subtle changes in colour and seemingly endless variations gave something so solid and permanent an unexpected sense of movement.
Looking at Marbleous, I'm reminded of that experience.
Sweeping layers of browns, creams, blacks and warm siennas flow across the canvas, forming intricate patterns that resemble the natural veining of stone. Colours merge, separate and reappear, creating a surface that feels almost geological.
There's a sense of movement within the stillness.
Small accents of gold leaf introduce another dimension. As the light changes throughout the day, they catch the eye without dominating the composition, bringing warmth and a subtle richness to the surface.
