Original Abstract Painting | 90 × 90 × 4 cm (36 × 36 × 1.5 in)
Some landscapes stay with us long after we've stopped noticing them.
Growing up in South Wales, I was surrounded by an industrial landscape of imposing structures, weathered surfaces, rusting metal and buildings that bore the marks of time. It was an environment with its own distinctive character - sometimes harsh, sometimes unexpectedly beautiful.
Looking at Urban Echoes, I recognise something of that world.
The bold, dark forms suggest fragments of architecture, while layers of colour and texture bring to mind surfaces shaped by years of exposure and change. There is a sense of structure, but also of disruption - as though something familiar has been broken apart and reassembled.
Yet Urban Echoes isn't a painting of a particular place. It developed through the process of painting itself, with each layer, mark and adjustment influencing what came next.
What emerged was something that feels both contemporary and strangely familiar.
A painting with presence
At 90 × 90 cm, Urban Echoes has the scale to establish a strong focal point without overwhelming a room.
Its architectural forms and textured surface invite a closer look, revealing details that aren't immediately apparent from a distance.
It is a painting that can be appreciated simply for its composition, colour and energy - or for the memories and associations it might stir in the person looking at it.
And perhaps that's what I find most interesting about abstract art.
We don't all have to see the same thing.
