Impossible Space

Have you ever just stopped and looked up at the night sky?
Not really thinking about anything in particular, just taking it in and wondering what’s actually out there. I’ve done that more times than I can count, and it’s always the same feeling, something vast, just beyond reach, but still pulling you in.
That’s where this piece comes from.
It’s not about depicting space in any literal sense, more about that feeling of scale and uncertainty. The colours do most of the work here, reds pushing through with energy, blues stretching things out, yellows cutting across like bursts of light. They sit against those darker areas, which act more like space itself… something everything else moves within.
There’s a lot going on, but it holds together.
Some shapes begin to suggest themselves the longer you look, orbs, fragments, things that feel suspended rather than fixed. It feels active, but not chaotic - balance is important.
From a distance, it reads as bold and immediate. As you get closer, it starts to open up, layers, overlaps, small details that shift depending on how you look at it. It doesn’t settle into one interpretation, which is part of what keeps it engaging.
In a space, it changes the atmosphere quite quickly. It adds depth, something that draws the eye beyond the wall rather than stopping at it. It works well anywhere you want a bit of energy, but also that sense of curiosity.
It tends to start conversations without trying.
The longer you spend with it, the more it feels like there’s something just out of reach within it, something you can’t quite define, but you keep coming back to anyway.
That sense of the infinite, held in colour and movement.
‘Step into the infinite, where colour collides with the cosmos’.
