During my time studying geology at university, I became fascinated by volcanoes - not just their destructive power, but their strange beauty. Molten rock reshaping land in real time. Pressure building invisibly beneath the surface, then erupting in dramatic release. That tension between control and chaos, structure and rupture, has stayed with me ever since, and it sits at the heart of this painting.
The surface of ‘Inferno Flow’ carries that volcanic language. The background burns like embers, layered with deep reds, blacks, and scorched undertones, while the white gestures cut through like sparks thrown into the air. Paint was applied with urgency - poured, dragged, and allowed to move instinctively - echoing the unpredictable paths of lava as it finds its way downhill. Nothing here is decorative.
