Sometimes inspiration arrives in an instant - wild, unexpected, impossible to plan.
The inspiration for ‘Lymade’ came from a moment just like that.
One hot afternoon - a rare event in Wales - I stepped away from the studio for a moment and grabbed a chilled bottle of limeade from the fridge. The second I twisted the cap…
It was carbonated carnage.
The bottle erupted, sending a vivid spray of green fizz shooting upward and outward in every direction. Only afterwards was I told that it had been dropped by the previous fridge raider moments earlier. Pressure had been quietly building inside, and the moment the cap came free, everything burst into motion.
That sudden burst - chaotic yet strangely beautiful - stayed with me.
Back at the canvas, that memory transformed into paint. Layers of luminous green flow across the surface like liquid energy, broken by branching networks of white that stretch and fracture like lightning, river systems, or the delicate web of nerves beneath the skin of the earth. Darker tones anchor the movement, giving the composition depth and tension - the visual echo of pressure releasing into space.
Look closely and the painting almost feels tactile. The surface carries the texture of layered acrylic, splatters suspended mid-flight, colours colliding and separating as though gravity itself briefly paused. There is brightness here, but also mystery - a sense that something powerful has just happened and the canvas has captured its aftermath.
When displayed in a home, the piece becomes a conversation with energy itself. It draws the eye again and again, revealing new pathways and connections each time you pass by. In a quiet room it brings vitality; in a contemporary space it becomes a focal point of motion and light. Collectors often find themselves discovering different shapes, rhythms and flows the longer they live with it.
That is part of the quiet power of abstract art - it evolves with the viewer.
This original painting captures a moment that could never be repeated. A small accident, a flash of inspiration, and the translation of that fleeting energy into paint. For the collector who brings it into their space, it becomes a permanent reminder that even the most unexpected moments can create something extraordinary.
‘A split second of pressure, released into colour’.
